Just printed these up real fast, I’ve got to get back into making quick and simple flyers. This is how I started doing posters for SPACE Gallery awhile ago. Not every poster has to have hours of drawing time behind it, some are only meant to be seen in person and not on the internet and will definitely have staples through them on the streets. I designed, burnt the screen and printed these within 2 hours, on cheap paper I’ve had laying around my studio for 2+ years. It was a nice little project for the day when I didn’t feel like working on my actual work.

Foam Castles Lettering

I recently did a small project for the Portland, ME band Foam Castles. I was asked to take some lettering and mess with it a little bit. So I did. I printed out the font that the band wanted to use and simply sprayed it with water to make certain areas bleed on the text, then scanned it back in and made it all one color. The album Bonanza is awesome and available at their Bandcamp for super cheap! Go get it! Looks like they will be pressing it on vinyl very soon also.

The Screaming Females just put out a new video for the song “It All Means Nothing” from their new album Ugly. If you look closely a few times in the video you can see my poster I made with Marissa the last time they came through Portland hanging on their walls. Pretty cool!
Please support these nice people and buy every album they have!

The Portland Phoenix Awards are happening once again and yet again I’ve been nominated for Best Visual Artist. I feel very honored and weird about it at the same time. I think I could name 20 other Portland artist’s who should be on that list instead of me. But if you’d like to vote for me you can do so here. Thanks! That’s all I’ll say about these awards.

Maine Magazine Illustration – Maine’s Most Romantic Restaurants

At the end of last year I made this illustration for Maine Magazine’s Most Romantic Restaurant’s article. It’s in Jan/Feb issue of the magazine around New England. I had a lot of fun with this job and it also frustrated me a great deal, I still feel very new to illustrating things that are brought to me. I usually get to draw whatever I want but have a specific theme or thing to go off from. At first the illustration was much larger but I ended up cropping it down a bit to not view the people in it and only their hand gestures.
My first instinct was to also make the male figure a “ghost” like person, making his arm, hand and flower somewhat transparent. At this point I realized I was moving a little to far away from the subject for the magazine and making the content a little to dark since this was coming out for valentines day.
You can view the article here.
I also liked playing around with the idea of a tattoo on both people connecting them besides them just having dinner with each other. I also used myself as reference, something I should do way more of. I’m still learning how to color things in Photoshop correctly, something I feel like I will never master but the last few drawings project’s I’ve had I’ve been getting a bit better, with this one I moved the girls colors off a little, at first it was to make her seem more nervous because the man’s colors were dead on, in the end I don’t think the nervousness shows but I liked the technique anyway. It might work better on her dress then her actual skin.
